Mikrokosmos is a collection of paintings on paper started in 2015 and still in development. Each painting is a fragment of a more complex and intagible cosmos, crossed by chromatic tensions and dissonant spaces where its layers mix and corrode each other in a perpetual motion. Emotions and memories transmute into colors and unexpected geometries.
The whole collection is dedicated and inspired by the famous hungarian composer and pianist Béla Bartòk (1881-1945). Between 1926 and 1939 he composed 153 short pieces for piano, collected all together with the name of Mikrokosmos (BB105). For this reason the collection will include 153 paintings, each of them numbered.
"Oscura e profonda era e nebulosa
tanto che, per ficcar lo viso a fondo,
io non vi discernea alcuna cosa.
«Or discendiam qua giù nel cieco mondo»,
cominciò il poeta tutto smorto.
«Io sarò primo, e tu sarai secondo»."
Dante, Inferno - Canto IV
The series "Limbico" brings together works on paper created during the whole 2015. Dimensions ranging from 10x15 to 30x40 cm. and all made with gouache, they developed from the previous "Monodie" and some transitional works (recognizable by the prevalent use of black and white). They have been were exhibited for the first time in Bologna on February 2015 at Black Market Studio in the "Limbico" exhibition. The series is made of numerous unnumbered paintings.
The series owes its name to Dante's description of Limbo and to the human limbic system.
